A simple method to observe organic solvent drops with a standard optical microscope

Abstract

n-Dodecane drops adsorbed to silica gel dispersed over a slide allowed the capture of images at several planes, enabling the visualisation of cells, both at the surface and inside the drops, confirming R. erythropolis hydrophobicity. According to the staining technique, the percentage of cell viability inside the n-dodecane drops was very high.
