Research Activities
Fuel for aviation has very strict specifications as freezing point below -43ºC, to avoid solidification of the fuel in altitude, or molecular heat combustion of 40 MJ/kg, to meet airplane engine requirements. These specifications are best achieved with hydrocarbon molecules of 6 to 10 carbons. Usual biodiesel comprise molecules of 16 or higher carbons, which are unable for aviation use
My work aims at exploring a new solution for jet biofuel production.
Both theoretical and experimental approaches and their combination
are considered for the bioprocess design as well as the assessment
of the economic viability and sustainability of the overall process.
