Research Activities
My research is focused on the development of plasmid biopharmaceuticals. Some of the scientific and technological challenges associated with this new class of medicianl agents are addressed by studying aspects like plasmid stability (structural and genetic), plasmid manufacturing and quality control. The development of a DNA vaccine prototype for African Trypanosomiasis is our major case study. I have also a strong interest in the development of miniaturized platforms for DNA manipulation, handling and detection, an area in which I collaborate with INESC-MN.
