Research Activities
The special features of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) namely their
extensive proliferative capacity, immunosuppressive capacities and
hypoimmunogenicity make them attractive candidates for clinical
applications. Currently, I am a Associação
Portuguesa
contra a Leucemia (APCL)’s fellow within the
“Mesenchymal
Stem Cells Project”. This project is a collaboration between
Instituto Superior Técnico, Instituto Português de
Oncologia (IPO) de Lisboa Francisco Gentil, Lisboa and Centro de
Histocompatibilidade do Sul (CHS), Lusotransplante which aims at the
clinical ex-vivo expansion of Mesenchymal Stem Cells under Good
Manufacturing Practices (GMP)-conditions for Cellular Therapy (e.g.
Graft-versus-Host Disease).
