Research Activities

The implementation of biological processes in industry is hampered by low product yields of commercial interesting compounds as well as the time required to implement the process. Process intensification tries to overcome such gaps, by reducing time for screening the compounds, for developing suitable downstream strategies, while reducing costs in all stages of process development.

My works aims at obtaining process intensification platforms with integrated production and downstream of biological processes that initially present low product yield and assess the economical viability of the overall process. Further research interests are i) scale-down (up) of bioconversion and fermentative systems, ii) micro-reactor engineering, iii) novel immobilization procedures and iv) biocatalysis in non-conventional medium.
