Research Activities

Recent advances in biotechnology have led to an increasing productivity in the upstream processing of many biotherapeutics. As a result, the high cost and low capacities of the currently used downstream technologies became a bottleneck in many of nowadays bioengineering processes. My research focuses on the development of an alternative cost-effective process for the downstream processing of antibodies. An aqueous two-phase extraction process concept will be designed for antibodies separation and purification and economical evaluation will be carried out. The performance of several pilot scale extraction contactors will be also investigated in order to evaluate and validate the developed process.
